HDMI-ARC-X

SKU HDMI-ARC-X

Use this HDMI ARC Digital Audio Extractor (not made by HTD) to allow TV volume to be controlled using your TV's remote control.

This extractor works with the HDMI ARC or eARC input on your TV. ARC is the Audio Return Channel which sends audio in the opposite direction as the video. HDMI ARC also includes a feature that passes volume commands from the TV into this extractor. Without it, the volume of a digital output cannot typically be controlled with the TV's remote control.

Use the extractor's analog stereo RCA or 3.5mm outputs to connect to an Analog Input Panel (AIP), Standard Input Panel (SIP), or Flexible Input Panel (FLIP) when using a Lync system. With other systems, use stereo audio baluns connected over a dedicated Cat 5 or higher cable to get the audio into your centralized system.

Includes a 5V power supply.

Digital outputs on most TVs will only pass a FIXED volume output. This is fine when you plan to use a third-party device such as a home theater receiver or whole-house audio system to control your volume. But what if you prefer to control your TV volume with the TV's remote control?

This HDMI ARC audio extractor provides a solution. In addition to receiving the digital audio stream from your TV, it also receives the digital volume commands from your TV's remote. It converts the stream to analog and uses the commands to adjust the analog output volume up and down. *see a more technical explanation below

Be aware that there are some limitations - because TV models and source content vary in their treatment of volume, the CEC commands interpreted by this extractor can sometimes result in loss of volume range and reduced overall volume output. If you experience this issue, one way to increase the overall volume output is to add an LGB-1 line-level gain booster. Also, but on rare occasion, you may discover that certain command buttons on your TV remote will not behave exactly as they did when not connected to the extractor.

* A slightly more technical explanation: This extractor accepts volume commands from the TV's HDMI ARC or eARC input. ARC stands for Audio Return Channel, and "e" is simply used to denote a higher standard of ARC that is only necessary with channel-heavy home theater/surround. On most TVs, only one of your HDMI inputs will include the ARC feature, which is required for this application. Importantly, and unlike other digital audio outputs such as Optical/Toslink, HDMI ARC can also pass volume commands using CEC (Consumer Electronics Control).

Note: This Audio Extractor includes additional features that can alternatively be used to accomplish the following. However, in either situation, the volume output will remain FIXED (not controllable by the TV remote):

  • Convert the audio from an HDMI ARC or eARC input into an Optical/Toslink output
  • Convert Optical/Toslink output to analog stereo RCA and 3.5mm audio outputs.
