How should I arrange speakers for surround sound?

Surround sound speaker layouts are typically represented in the following format: X.Y.Z, where . . .
- X = number of speakers used for front left, center, right, and surround locations
- Y = number of subwoofers connected to the Low Frequency Effects (LFE) channel
- Z = number of Atmos (height) speakers
Whether it's for a dedicated theater room, or your family TV room, if you're looking to set up more than stereo, Dolby has the best guidance for optimal speaker placement for 5.1, 7.1, 7.1.4, etc.
