Our Kapton ribbon tweeter provides effortless clarity and detail.

While most ribbon tweeters are constructed of mylar, the latest ribbon tweeters use a material invented by Dupont called Kapton. Kapton has been around a while but has only recently become affordable for home audio use. It is very strong and heat resistant, even at only .01mm thick (the human hair is about .07mm in diameter). Aluminum powder is carefully laid out and "fused" directly on to the ribbon to create the .02mm thick "voice coil" that interacts with two linear neodymium magnets mounted in front of, and behind, the ribbon.

Horizontal dispersion is very wide allowing even those sitting on the far edges of the room to experience the same level of detail and clarity as those sitting near the sweet spot. Vertical dispersion is intentionally limited to minimize unwanted reflections from the flat surfaces of the floor and ceiling. Our Kapton Ribbon Tweeter is housed in a custom cast aluminum waveguide that helps extend the high frequencies down to an ideal cross-over frequency of 2.5 kHz.

The result is a tweeter that effortlessly produces the highest frequencies (+/- 2dB from 2.5 kHz to 40 kHz) without sounding harsh or "in your face". Dialogue in movies is extremely natural sounding and music can be enjoyed for hours without the listener experiencing any fatigue.
