Siri - Getting Started

Most homes have one primary Apple account with multiple users that share Siri-enabled devices, such as HomePod, and services such as Apple Music. If your home, in fact, has more than one Apple account, make sure that you link the HTD Home Audio app with the email address associated with the Apple ID that has the most Siri-enabled devices tied to it. Only Siri-enabled devices set up under the linked Apple ID will be able to control your HTD home audio system.

To avoid accidentally overwriting zone names, source names, and presets used by Siri, it is best to only allow one person in the home to sync data from the HTD Home Audio app with your Siri account.

*Gateway model WGW-SLX is required for Siri control.*

STEP 1: Sync the HTD Home Audio App.

  1. Open the HTD Home Audio app and tap the hamburger menu in the upper left corner. Select "Voice Assistants".
  2. Tap on Siri and enter the same email address you use for your Siri account. Then tap “Send verification code”.
  3. Check your email (including junk folders) for an email with a verification code. Enter the code in the “Verification code” field in the HTD Home Audio app and tap “Confirm”.
  4. Tap the "Sync to Cloud" button to sync your zone names, source names, and presets to be used by Siri.
  5. Clear user data” – do NOT select this unless you truly want to start fresh with new zone names, source names, and presets.
  6. Log out” – You can log out of the connection to the HTD cloud and the app will continue to work.

STEP 2: Add Home Audio Commands to Apple Shortcuts

  1. Open the Apple Shortcuts app and tap on the "+ " in the upper right hand corner.
  2. Search for “Home Audio”, and then select each of the commands you plan to use. At a minimum, select "Ask home audio to turn on all zones in [system name]." Note that most commands require that you include a zone, source, volume number, or preset name.
  3. When finished selecting commands, tap “Done” in the upper right corner to go to the “All Shortcuts” page. Your recently added shortcuts will appear at the top of the page.

Worth noting: The app can remain logged in to the HTD cloud so that you can press "Sync to Cloud" at any time after you've made changes to zone names, source names or presets. A green "check mark" will appear next to "Siri" when you are logged in. You do not need to be logged in for Siri to work. Should you log out, at any time you can follow STEP 1 to log back in.

Worth noting: Zone names and source names are pulled from the HTD Home Audio app using names "as they appear in the app", and not "as they appear on keypads". Zone names must be unique, even across multiple systems on the same Siri account.

Test Voice Control Using Siri

Use a Siri-enabled device (HomePod, iPhone, etc.) or the Siri app itself, to issue the following voice command: "Hey Siri, ask home audio to turn on all zones in [my house]." Note that [my house] should be replaced with the name you gave your system in the HTD Home Audio app. "My house" is the default. Make sure you follow this syntax exactly.

Check the zone status lights on the front of your HTD controller or in the HTD Home Audio app to confirm all zones are powered on. If this did not work for you, please visit the troubleshooting page for Siri.
