Google Home - Getting Started
Most homes have just one Google Home account with multiple users that share Google Home and Nest devices, such as Nest Mini, and services such as YouTube Music. If your home, in fact, has more than one Google Home account, make sure that you link the HTD Home Audio app with the email address associated with the Google Home account that has the most Google Home and Nest devices tied to it. Only Google Home and Nest devices set up under the linked Google Home account will be able to control your HTD home audio system.
To avoid accidentally overwriting zone names, source names, and presets used by Google Home, it is best to only allow one person in the home to sync data from the HTD Home Audio app with your Google Home account.
STEP 1: Sync the HTD Home Audio App.
- Open the HTD Home Audio app and tap the hamburger menu in the upper left corner. Select "Voice Assistants".
- Tap on Google Home and enter the same email address you use for your Google Home account. Then tap “Send verification code”.
- Check your email (including junk folders) for an email with a verification code. Enter the code in the “Verification code” field in the HTD Home Audio app. Then tap “Confirm”.
- Tap the "Sync to Cloud" button to sync your zone names, source names, and presets to be used by Google Home.
“Clear user data” – do NOT select this unless you truly want to start fresh with new zone names, source names, and presets.
“Log out” – You can log out of the connection to the HTD cloud and the app will continue to work.
STEP 2: Link the HTD Home Audio Google Home Skill.
- Open the Google Home app and tap on "Devices". Then tap on "+ Add".
- Select “Works with Google Home” and search for and select the “HTD Home Audio” skill, and tap to link the skill.
- Link your account: Enter the email address associated with your Google Home account. Tap “Get Code”.
- Check your email (including junk folders) for an email with a verification code. Enter the code in the “Verification code” field in the HTD Home Audio app. Then tap “Log in”.
- When returning to the HTD Home Audio skill, you should now see your home audio zones listed under “Choose device”. You can close this window.
- The Google Home app should indicate the skill is "Linked". To confirm this you can go back to devices and tap on “Add” and then select “Works with Google Home” and your “Linked” skills will appear at the top.
- If you do not see your zones listed as devices, tap on the HTD Home Audio skill (following step 6) and select “Check for new devices”.
Worth noting: The app can remain logged in to the HTD cloud so that you can press "Sync to Cloud" at any time after you've made changes to zone names, source names or presets. A green "check mark" will appear next to "Google Home" when you are logged in. You do not need to be logged in for Google Home to work. Should you log out, at any time you can follow STEP 1 to log back in.
Worth noting: Zone names and source names are pulled from the HTD Home Audio app using names "as they appear in the app", and not "as they appear on keypads". Zone names must be unique, even across multiple systems on the same Google Home account.
Test Voice Control Using Google Home
Use a Google Home device (Google Home, Nest Mini, etc.) or the Google Assistant app itself, to issue the following voice command: "Hey Google, turn on [my house]." Note that [my house] should be replaced with the name you gave your system in the HTD Home Audio app. "My house" is the default. Make sure you follow this syntax exactly.
Check the zone status lights on the front of your HTD controller or in the HTD Home Audio app to confirm all zones are powered on. If this did not work for you, please visit the troubleshooting page for Google Home.
